RESIDENTS in some areas around Sellafied have been told to shelter after a radio active leak. The incident happened at 8.39am today at the Sellafied Nuclear Plant. Police are advising residents to stay inside and close doors and windows, and turn off internal ventilation. No one is reported to have been hurt at present. It has been caused by a collision between a construction crane and a waste storage facility. The areas of Haile, Calderbridge Ponsonby, Ponsonby are thought to be particularly at risk. Police will be coordinating activity under the operation Oscar 10. It is feared that anyone coming into contact with radio active waste could be at risk of developing non-Hodgkins lukaemia. Superintendent Justin Bibby, of Cumbria police, said: 'You would be better protected if you stay inside.' Updates will be given to www.cumbriaalert.info and listen to Cumbria radio station. Police officers who are off duty are not called in to deployment. Follow #exerciseoscar10 www.cumbria.police.uk a
